2019 Maryam Bey completed Broken Spirit Let It Go So You Can Grow. An autobiography about her seventeen years working with men and women in the prison system in Newark, New Jersey that began 2006. She recognized their brokenness because she was broken too. The experiences made it possible for her to become a Reentry Specialist and Consultant. Broken Spirit Let It Go So You Can Grow is based on the correlation of poor education and mass incarceration for Black and Hispanic youth or the school to prison pipeline which ultimately leads to a life of crime or death. Maryam discusses the importance of mental health wellness as a key to their holistic healing. 2020 Black people and people of color continue to face racism in all sectors particularly in education and mass incarceration as well as Black people killed by bad cops.
This creates fear, anxiety, depression which develops into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She believes there needs to be ongoing discussions and focus on education and mass incarceration since both systems are broken. There are individuals of all races who realize we must repair this atrocious injustice. Case managers, counselors and teachers are critical to the academic advancement of inmates, students as are attorneys, prosecutors, and judges.
Maryam Bey, dropped out of school and obtained her GED. She earned two degrees from Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, New Jersey in Urban Education & Public Policy.

A former Newark Public Schools Board Member and Board President. She is the Founder, CEO and Host of Tell a Vision, LLC, a local cable tv show and public speaking firm. Currently the Reentry Coordinator for the City of Newark. She lectures at colleges, schools, faith-based organizations as well as conduct staff development trainings in reentry. She produces inspiring conferences, workshops, and symposiums.
